elvis costello. started out as indie rock, in the late 70's early 80's when it wasn't popular. played "radio radio" on a tv show (i forget which one) and was banned for a while. only had 2 top 40 hits in his career, but wrote better music than most people of the same era. after many albums, moved to slow jazz styles in the early 2000's. his album north. married a country singer a couple of years back, released a country-tinged album. after this, his newest (as of now) release is an orchestration of "il sogno" (a midsummer night's dream) that sounds like it should be taking place in the roaring 20's. he is now back in the jazz scene, and his newest release on feb 28 is a live album of jazz, taking many of his standards under a new light. new songs also included.

basically, he is not trapped in one genre. he can do whatever he wants and get away with it.

I must say Michael Jackson, but please do not blend centuries! You can not compare composers from different eras...

Michael Jackson because of his talent, for his moves, for the genius in composing and in interpreting. And, most of all, for the way he change show-biz and influence generations of artists!
